CRUNCH, CRUNCH.. nothing can be more satisfying than the sinking of ur teeth into the crisp-crunchiness of a 6 month old packet of ‘fresh’ Mexican chilli chippies. As ur nose relishes in its toxic, spicy aroma and ur taste buds beg for more.. Wow. Now that, is in a class of its own. Right?
All that glitters isn’t gold and though ur chips might literally be glowing (because of the artery-clogging amount of oil that is used), it is more hazardous to our mental and physical well-being than we realise, but hey.. how bad can it be? its just a small packet of chips.. Right? Wrong.
From the risks of weight gain, high calories and the negative impacts on our hearts to its very low nutrition value, turns out, that small bag of chips is not as innocent as it seems.
In fact, the problem with the common potato chip is that it contains not one, but many harmful poisons, starting with; trans fats. According to most research it is considered to be the worst type of fat consumed. Unlike other dietary fats, trans fats raises bad cholesterol, increases the risk of heart disease, clogs arteries and causes cancer cells to multiply when consumed in large amounts.This ingredient is favoured by the food industry because it keeps food crisp and gives it long, abnormal shelf life and no, It doesn’t end there.
When food is to be stored for a long period of time, additives and preservatives are used to keep unnatural quality and flavour. Almost all of the preservatives used are artificial and made from chemicals, not from actual spice fruit, veggies or any similar plant material, because artificial flavouring is cheaper and yields better, longer results.
These preservatives cause numerous health problems including, – hyperactivity, ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) etc. Chips containing additives can cause asthma, hay-fever and reactions such as rashes, vomiting, headaches, tight chests, hives and the worsening of eczema. They also affect the thyroid.
All preservatives and additives and synthesized chemicals which don’t even have common names.
Most flavourings are derived from petroleum.

All of these chemicals are TOXIC.
Our beloved guide, Nabi Muhammed (sallalaahu alaihi wa sallam) has told us that there are 2 things that most people take lightly- good health and free time. Looking after our health is an essential part of being a Muslim. if we are not careful regarding what we eat, then we may be deprived of the reward of many important a’maal as Allah Ta’aala informs us.
‘يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِلَّهِ إِنْ كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ
‘Oh those who believe, eat of the wholesome food which We have sustained you with and give thanks to Allah, if it is He whom you worship..’
In this ayat, Allah informs us to eat halaal tayyib food and then to worship Him (notice the order), hence showing that our bodies must be nourished by pure, wholesome food so that our worship to Him may be of the highest, purest degree.
And verily,you body has a right over you…
